From Wandue Phodrang to Bumthang
We left Wandue Phodrang around 8 this morning saying goodbye to teachers Carson, Meghan, and Sue – the first goodbyes of the road trip. We crossed officially from Western Bhutan to Central Bhutan and drove through three mountain passes. I think we’ve driven over 200 kilometers since leaving Thimpu at roughly an average speed of 15 miles per hour. Needless to say, it is slow going, but gorgeous. Unfortunately I tend to fall asleep more than stay awake (when roads are windy and bumpy and I start to feel nauseous, my default mode is sleep), which is a shame, as this drive is part of the whole experience, something we’re not likely to do again in such perfect weather.
Temporary road block. We had several of these along the way.
Karma works for BCF and has been a crucial part of us getting settled in Bhutan, from work permits to helping us buy gas stoves to just being an amazingly warm and funny person.
Bumthang is known as the Switzerland of Bhutan.
